Three individuals have been arrested for allegedly spreading rumours in the aftermath of the deadly stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur on Saturday, which claimed over 41 lives.
According to Chennai Police, the arrests were made as part of ongoing investigations into misinformation that circulated following the tragedy. The arrested individuals include:
- Sahayam, 38, from Perumbakkam, BJP State Secretary (Art & Culture)
- Sivaneswaran, from Mangadu, a TVK member
- Sarathkumar, 32, from Avadi, TVK’s 46th Ward Secretary
The Karur stampede occurred during a political rally, creating chaos and panic among the attendees.
Authorities have been investigating both the cause of the stampede and the spread of false information on social media and other channels.
Police have urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information and assured that a thorough investigation into the incident is underway.
