The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released the final electoral rolls for Bihar ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for October-November.
“In the light of Special Intensive Revision, the final electoral roll dated September 30, 2025, has been published. Any voter can check the details of their name in the voter list through the link, voters.eci.gov.in,” an official said.
Special Intensive Revision sparks political row
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) was conducted in Bihar after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi accused ECI of “vote chori”. This activity of SIR was conducted in the state after a gap of 22 years.
The issue is currently being heard in the Supreme Court, with the next hearing scheduled next week. The ECI, however, has assured that no eligible citizen will be excluded.
Election schedule likely after Chhath
According to PTI, the ECI is expected to announce the Bihar election schedule within a week. Sources indicated that polling could begin after the Chhath Puja festival, observed from October 25 to 28, suggesting elections may start in late October or early November.
The tenure of the current Bihar government ends on November 22, requiring results to be declared in time for the formation of the next government.
Background: 2020 Bihar election results
In the last assembly polls held in 2020, the 243-member Bihar assembly saw the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secure a majority with 125 seats. The BJP won 74, JD(U) 43, HAM(S) 4, and two independents extended support.
The opposition’s Grand Alliance, then known as the Mahagathbandhan, bagged 110 seats, with the RJD emerging as the single largest party with 75 seats, followed by Congress with 19 and the Left parties with the rest. Results were declared on November 10 that year.
