GRAP-1 restrictions imposed in Delhi as air quality worsens

With Delhi’s air quality deteriorating ahead of the Diwali season, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Tuesday announced the enforcement of Stage 1 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the National Capital Region.

The move comes after Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 211, slipping into the “poor” category.

Under GRAP-1, agencies are required to intensify pollution control measures, including strict monitoring of construction dust, road sweeping, and waste burning.

The CAQM has urged citizens to adhere to the GRAP citizen charter to help curb further decline in air quality.

Officials said all implementing bodies across the NCR will “ensure that AQI levels do not slip further.”

The commission will continue to monitor pollution levels closely and review the situation to determine if stricter measures under GRAP Stage 2 are required in the coming days.
