“Aim to serve people, not become politician”: Singer Maithili Thakur on joining BJP

Renowned folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, declaring that her entry into politics was driven by a desire to serve people rather than to pursue power.

Thakur, who joined the party in Patna in the presence of Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal, expressed deep admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, calling their leadership her inspiration.

“I am very impressed with the PM and Bihar CM. Drawing inspiration from them, I want to take their ideology to every person. I am here to serve society, not to become a politician. I am the daughter of Mithila; my soul resides in Mithila,” Thakur said.

When asked if she would contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Thakur said she would abide by the party’s decision.

“The party will decide what role I play. I am here to support them fully,” she added.

Sources suggest Thakur may contest from Alinagar in Darbhanga, as Bihar heads to polls on November 6 and 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.
