Ashok Gehlot says Bihar Mahagathbandhan united despite seat-sharing obstacles

Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday asserted that the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) in Bihar remains “completely united” and will contest the upcoming assembly elections as a cohesive front, dismissing reports of internal discord over seat-sharing.

After meeting Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav in Patna, Gehlot said minor overlaps in a few constituencies were “normal in large alliances” and would not affect the coalition’s strength.

“There are small issues on 5–7 seats due to local dynamics, but the Mahagathbandhan is fighting together,” he said, adding that the alliance’s final seat details will be announced at a joint press conference on Thursday.

The RJD has announced 143 candidates, Congress 61, and the Left parties about 33, leading to a few “friendly contests” between allies in some constituencies.

Gehlot also accused the BJP of spreading false narratives to create divisions within the INDIA bloc.

Tejashwi Yadav echoed Gehlot’s assurance, saying the coalition remains firm and focused on change in Bihar.
