UP Warriorz release Deepti Sharma ahead of WPL 2026 auction

In a surprising move, the UP Warriorz have released India’s star all-rounder and 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup Player of the Tournament, Deepti Sharma, ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction.

The franchise has opted for a complete reset after failing to cross the finish line in the first three editions of the tournament.

Deepti’s release comes alongside several high-profile exits, including captain Alyssa Healy, England spinner Sophie Ecclestone, Australian all-rounder Grace Harris, and young Indian talent Kranti Goud. The decision marks one of the biggest reshuffles in WPL history.

The UP Warriorz have retained just one player, Shweta Sehrawat,  who stays with the team for ₹50 lakh.

With nearly an empty roster, the franchise now enters the auction with a massive purse of ₹14.5 crore, signalling plans for an aggressive rebuild ahead of the 2026 season.

The bold decisions underline UP Warriorz’s intent to revamp their squad and strategy in pursuit of their maiden WPL title.
