Dr. Shaheen Shahid’s former husband, Dr. Zafar Hayat, has expressed his disbelief over her alleged terror involvement.
Dr. Shaheen, a 43-year-old doctor was arrested from Haryana’s Faridabad on November 10 in relation with a terror investigation linked to the recent Delhi’s Red Fort car blast.
Dr. Zafar, an ophthalmologist at KPM Hospital in Lucknow, said he “never imagined” Shaheen could be part of any illegal activity. The former couple met while working at GSVM Medical College in Kanpur and got married in 2003 before separating in 2015.
“Shaheen was calm, focused on her studies, and never discussed religion or ideology,” he said, adding that she left home suddenly and never returned.
According to Uttar Pradesh ATS officials, Dr. Shaheen had been living in Faridabad with Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie, a key accused in the terror module allegedly spanning Kashmir to Delhi.
Her brother, Dr. Parvez Ansari, was also arrested this week for suspected links to the same network.
Investigators are probing whether Shaheen facilitated logistics or helped transport explosives recovered in Faridabad.
Shaheen’s financial and phone records are under scrutiny to determine possible contact with handlers abroad.
