Modi reunites with Meloni at G20, calls for action on drug-terror nexus

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in South Africa on Saturday, marking their latest interaction after their meeting at the G7 summit in Canada earlier this year.

Modi, who was received at the venue by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, was seen exchanging greetings and holding brief discussions with Meloni and other world leaders.

Addressing the opening session of the G20 Leaders’ Meeting, Modi called for a comprehensive review of global development standards, stressing the need for frameworks that better reflect contemporary challenges.

He also proposed a coordinated G20 initiative to counter the growing nexus between drug trafficking and terrorism.

Additionally, the prime minister suggested establishing a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository under the G20 to safeguard environment-friendly practices, cultural traditions and community-based harmony systems.
