MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Monday confirmed that newly appointed US Deputy Trade Representative Rick Switzer will visit India on December 10–11, marking the resumption of formal India–US trade talks in New Delhi.
The announcement comes days after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit and follows months of strained commercial ties between India and the US.
The upcoming dialogue builds on a “positive and forward-looking” meeting held in September between US negotiator Brendan Lynch and a Commerce Ministry team led by Special Secretary Rajesh Agarwal.
Talks are expected to address the impact of two rounds of US tariffs imposed earlier this year, a 25% duty in the first phase and another 25% linked to India’s purchase of Russian oil, which slowed trade momentum significantly.
