Goa govt sets up inquiry panel to probe nightclub fire that killed 25

Following the tragic incident at Goa’s nightclub, the state government on Monday has formed a four-member magisterial inquiry committee to further investigate the massive fire that took 25 lives.

The fire that gutted the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub in Arpora, killed 20 staff members and five tourists. It is suspected that fireworks triggered the blaze late Saturday night at the popular party venue located 25km from the capital city.

The committee, chaired by North Goa District Collector Ankit Yadav, includes South Goa SP Tikam Singh Verma, Forensic Sciences Director Ashutosh Apte and Fire and Emergency Services deputy director Rajendra Halarnkar.

It has been tasked with examining the sequence of events, verifying statutory compliance, identifying lapses and fixing accountability.

Police have arrested four senior staffers including chief general manager Rajiv Modak, general manager Vivek Singh, bar manager Rajiv Singhania and gate manager Riyanshu Thakur, while owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra are yet to be detained.
