US advises personnel to leave Qatar air base amid rising tensions with Iran

Some personnel at a key U.S. military base in Qatar were advised to evacuate by Wednesday evening amid heightened regional tensions linked to unrest in Iran, according to a U.S. official and Qatari authorities.

The move followed warnings by President Donald Trump of possible action against Tehran after a deadly crackdown on anti-government protesters.

A U.S. official described the advisory at Al Udeid Air Base as a precautionary step and said similar measures were being taken across the region, without disclosing whether the evacuation was mandatory or how many people were affected.

The U.S. Embassy in Qatar later confirmed that it had advised its personnel to exercise increased caution and limit non-essential travel to the base, extending the same advice to U.S. citizens in the country.

In Kuwait, the U.S. embassy ordered a temporary halt on personnel travel to several military bases. The developments come as tensions with Iran remain high, though the nature of any potential U.S. action remains unclear.
