Exit polls predict clean sweep for BJP+ in BMC polls

Voting for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections took place on Thursday across 227 wards in Mumbai, with around 1,700 candidates contesting and over 1.03 crore voters eligible to participate.

Exit polls by Axis My India have forecast a massive victory for the BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena under the Mahayuti banner, projecting a tally of 131–151 seats in the 227-member civic body.

According to the survey, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is estimated to have secured a 42 per cent vote share, compared to 32 per cent for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) alliance.

A similar trend has been predicted by the JVC exit poll, which projects the BJP-led Mahayuti winning 138 seats, while the Shiv Sena (UBT) alliance is expected to secure 59 seats.

The Congress is projected to trail both alliances. The official results of the BMC polls will be declared on Friday, January 16.
