Indians returning from protest-hit Iran, including several students, arrived in Delhi late Friday night on commercial flights as unrest continues to grip the Islamic nation.
Some of those who landed said they did not face direct difficulties during their stay, though limited internet access left many unaware of the scale of protests across the country.
A medical student from Shiraz said the situation in her city appeared calm, adding that they returned independently and not through any government-arranged evacuation.
Earlier this week, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said around 9,000 Indian nationals are currently living in Iran, most of them students.
He noted that the government has issued multiple advisories urging Indians not to travel to Iran and advising those currently there to leave using available commercial flight options.
Iran has been witnessing widespread protests triggered by inflation and severe currency devaluation, with demonstrations spreading across all 31 provinces and intensifying into demands for political change.
