Uttarakhand has tightened the security along its border with Nepal amid the intensifying unrest in the Himalayan nation, where violent “Gen Z protests” have plunged the country into chaos.
The Uttarakhand Police Headquarters confirmed on Tuesday that additional measures were being enforced across sensitive border points in response to the crisis.
According to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Pithoragarh Police, in coordination with Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel, are conducting round-the-clock patrols and combing operations along the Kali River and other vulnerable stretches under border police stations.
The move comes as Nepal reels under widespread violence sparked by a controversial social media ban, which has since been withdrawn. At least 19 people have died in clashes, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli tendered his resignation, and protesters set fire to the parliament building in Kathmandu.
Authorities in Uttarakhand have emphasized vigilance to prevent any spillover of unrest across the porous Indo-Nepal border, while closely monitoring the rapidly deteriorating situation in the neighboring country.
