PM Modi announces ₹1,600 crore relief for flood-hit Punjab

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a relief package of ₹1,600 crore for flood-ravaged Punjab, in addition to the ₹12,000 crore already available with the state.

The financial aid is aimed at accelerating rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts following the devastation caused by the recent floods.

The package includes the advance release of the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) as well as support under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to provide immediate relief to farmers.

The Prime Minister underlined the importance of a multi-dimensional recovery strategy, stressing that rebuilding homes under the PM Awas Yojana, restoring damaged highways, reconstructing schools, and distributing livestock mini kits will be central to the rehabilitation drive.

Relief will also flow through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), ensuring targeted assistance reaches affected families. Earlier in the day, Modi had announced ₹1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh, to help recover from a similar situation.

The aid would not only address immediate humanitarian needs but also lay the foundation for long-term recovery in Punjab.
