CP Radhakrishnan to be sworn in as India’s 15th VP on September 12

NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan, who emerged victorious in the vice-presidential elections held yesterday, will take oath as India’s 15th Vice President on September 12.

Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes, defeating opposition nominee B. Sudharshan Reddy by a significant margin.

A seasoned politician, Radhakrishnan previously served as the Governor of Maharashtra and has held various leadership roles in public life. His election comes after the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who stepped down from the post citing health concerns.

Radhakrishnan’s elevation marks a continuation of the NDA’s stronghold on key constitutional positions.

As Vice President, he will also assume the role of Chairman of the Rajya Sabha at a time when the Upper House faces contentious debates on economic and social reforms.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by top leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with opposition members.
