Supreme Court to deliver order on Waqf (Amendment) Act on September 15

The Supreme Court will pronounce its order on Monday, September 15, on whether to suspend the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Bhushan R. Gavai and Justice A.G. Masih will deliver the ruling nearly four months after reserving judgment on 21 petitions challenging the law’s validity.

The petitions were heard over three days in May, with the Supreme court reserving its verdict on May 22.

The development follows the August 22 hearing where the bench declined to stay a Union government notification mandating registration of all waqf properties on the UMEED portal within six months.

At that time, CJI Gavai remarked that no interim stay could be granted since judgment had been reserved, directing petitioners to comply until the final order.

The verdict is expected to have far-reaching implications for the management of waqf properties nationwide.
