Amid heightened tension between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack and the call for boycott of the Ind-Pak match, yesterday’s match between the two sides has added to the tense situation.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended its Director of International Cricket, Usman Wahla, in the aftermath of the “Handshake Gate” controversy during the India-Pakistan Asia Cup clash on Sunday.
The move came a day after India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets, with skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube walking straight to the dressing room after hitting the winning runs, skipping the customary handshake with Pakistani players.
According to reports, the entire Indian squad, including support staff, then went inside and shut the dressing room doors, avoiding post-match pleasantries.
PCB sources claimed Wahla failed to lodge an official protest with the match referee in time, allowing the incident to escalate into a diplomatic embarrassment.
The board, visibly upset, has even threatened to withdraw from the tournament if such incidents are repeated, marking another flashpoint in the already tense cricketing rivalry.
