BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Opposition, accusing Congress and RJD leaders of crossing all limits of decency by targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother during election rallies. Watch Bansuri’s remarks below:
Swaraj, daughter of late Union minister Sushma Swaraj, said that while PM Modi has spent the last 11 years ensuring India embraces “women-led development” on the path to a developed nation, Opposition leaders have chosen to indulge in personal abuse.“The indecency of Congress and RJD is not democracy, but cowardice,” Swaraj said to PTI, stressing that such remarks insult not just the Prime Minister but the dignity of public discourse itself.
Her comments came on a day when PM Modi, for the first time, publicly addressed the issue of abuses directed at his mother. “My mother had nothing to do with politics, so why was she abused by the RJD-Congress?” the Prime Minister asked, underlining that his family had no role in governance.
The remarks by RJD-Congress leaders came during a rally in Bihar, ahead of upcoming assembly elections in Bihar. Reply from BJP leaders has only added to the heat of the moment, with the ruling party framing the attacks as evidence of the Opposition’s frustration and erosion of democratic values.
