The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday strongly criticised Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan over his recent remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi while citing the situation in Venezuela, accusing the Opposition party of lowering political discourse.
BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said Chavan’s comments reflected an “anti-India mindset” and were irresponsible.
Bhandari took to X to object to Chavan’s purported statement questioning whether developments similar to Venezuela could happen in India, including a reference to US President Donald Trump allegedly “kidnapping” the Indian prime minister.
The BJP leader said such comparisons were shameful and aimed at creating unnecessary fear.
The remarks were made by Chavan while speaking on US tariffs and recent developments in Venezuela. Congress has not yet responded to the BJP’s criticism.
Former Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid also condemned Chavan’s comments. Meanwhile, India has officially expressed concern over US actions in Venezuela, urging all parties to resolve issues through dialogue and peaceful means.
