Amid widespread IndiGo flight cancellations, a techie couple from Bengaluru had to go virtual to attend their own wedding.
Medha Kshirsagar from Hubbali and Sangama Das from Bhubneshwar, got married in Bhubaneswar on November 23 and had planned a formal reception in the bride’s hometown for December 3.
Flight disruption leaves couple and relatives stranded
The couple was set to travel via the Bhubaneswar–Bengaluru–Hubballi route on December 2, but repeated delays from Tuesday morning to early Wednesday eventually led to cancellations on December 3.
Several relatives flying the Bhubaneswar–Mumbai–Hubballi route also faced cancellations, leaving guests uncertain as they waited at the venue.
Bride’s parents step in to save the day
With the event ready at Gujarat Bhavan and the couple unable to reach, the bride’s parents performed the rituals.
Medha and Sangama joined via video call from Bhubaneswar in their wedding attire, with their live feed projected on a screen for the guests.
Reason behind IndiGo’s nationwide cancellations
The disruption was part of a larger operational crisis at IndiGo, triggered by a pilot shortage and planning gaps during the rollout of the second phase of Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms. The airline cancelled more than 500 flights on Thursday alone.
Latest update on operations
IndiGo has informed the DGCA that operations are expected to stabilise by February 10, 2026, but cautioned that cancellations will continue until December 8, along with reduced services.
