The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a major administrative rejig in Bihar’s Mokama Assembly constituency, days after the murder of Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav triggered political tensions in the area.
In a directive issued on Saturday, the poll body transferred three key officers and initiated disciplinary action against them, citing administrative lapses.
Barh Sub-Divisional Officer and Returning Officer for Mokama, Chandan Kumar, has been replaced by IAS officer Ashish Kumar, currently serving as Additional Municipal Commissioner, Patna Municipal Corporation.
Additionally, SDPO Barh-1 Rakesh Kumar and SDPO Barh-2 Abhishek Singh have been shifted out and substituted with 2022-batch officers Anand Kumar Singh and Ayush Shrivastava.
The reshuffle follows the suspension of two station house officers – Ghoswari SHO Madhusudan Kumar and Bhadaur SHO Ravi Ranjan.
The Rural SP of Patna confirmed the action and ongoing investigation.
The poll panel’s intervention indicates heightened scrutiny over law-and-order conditions in the high-sensitivity constituency ahead of elections.
The murder of Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party, had sparked demands for accountability and intensified political pressure on local authorities.
