Four Lawrence gang operatives held as Punjab Police foil major terror plot

On Wednesday, Punjab’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) along with SAS Nagar Police arrested four operatives linked to foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon of the Lawrence Bishnoi network.

The four men linked to the Lawrence gang were arrested after an exchange of fire near Steel Strips Towers on the Dera Bassi-Ambala Highway.

Those arrested have been identified as Harvinder Singh alias Bhola alias Honey, Lakhwinder Singh, Mohammad Samir and Rohit Sharma, all residents of Rajpura in Patiala district.

Punjab Police has also recovered seven .32 caliber pistols and 70 live cartridges from their possession.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations indicated that the accused were acting on instructions from their foreign-based handler and were planning targeted attacks across the Tricity and Patiala region.

According to ADGP AGTF Promod Ban, the joint teams moved in after receiving specific intelligence. When officers attempted the arrest, the suspects opened fire, with bullets hitting the bulletproof jackets of two policemen.

In retaliatory firing, two accused sustained injuries before all four were overpowered.

SSP SAS Nagar Harmandeep Hans said all four have criminal records, and further arrests are likely as the probe widens.

A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act at Dera Bassi police station.
