Gill, Iyer return as India announce squad for ODI series against NZ

Team India is all set to kickstart 2026 as BCCI has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, set to begin on January 11. 

Shubman Gill, who missed the previous ODI series against South Africa due to a neck injury, is back and will lead the side. Rishabh Pant has been included as an additional wicketkeeper, while vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been named in the squad, subject to fitness clearance. 

Despite scoring a century in the last ODI series against South Africa, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s name was missing in the 15-member squad. All-rounder Axar Patel has also been dropped from the squad. 

Star pacer Mohammed Shami has once again been left out despite performing well in domestic cricket, with his last ODI appearance coming in the 2025 Champions Trophy final. On the other hand, Mohd. Siraj is set to return for the upcoming series.

Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (VC)*, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Series schedule:

  • January 11: 1st ODI, Vadodara
  • January 14: 2nd ODI, Rajkot
  • January 18: 3rd ODI, Indore
