GRAP-IV curbs lifted in Delhi as AQI improves to ‘poor’ category

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Wednesday revoked Stage IV restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi after a sharp improvement in air quality levels.

The capital’s air quality index (AQI) stood at 271, classified as ‘poor’, a significant recovery from the ‘severe’ level of 412 recorded a day earlier.

The pollution watchdog said the improvement was driven by high wind speeds and favourable meteorological conditions, which helped disperse pollutants across the region.

Following a review meeting of the Sub-Committee on GRAP, the CAQM decided to ease the strictest curbs, including those on construction activities and diesel vehicle movement.

However, the agency cautioned that the relief may be temporary. Forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and IITM indicate a possible rise in pollution levels in the coming days due to slower wind speeds, prompting authorities to remain on alert.
