Bihar’s Mokama saw tightened security just a day after Jan Suraaj Party’s supporter Dular Chand Yadav was killed during election campaign.
Yadav, once a feared figure in Mokama’s wetland belt, had been campaigning for his nephew and Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi when he was reportedly attacked in Basavanchak village.
Mokama constituency will vote on November 6, is witnessing fierce battle between JD(U)’s strongman Anant Singh and RJD’s Veena Devi, wife of former MP Surajbhan Singh.
According to Priyadarshi’s supporters Yadav was assaulted after a clash with supporters of Anant Singh, claiming the convoy was attacked with sticks and rods and Yadav was later run over.
Singh denied any involvement, he rather blamed RJD’s Surajbhan Singh for starting the unrest.
Police maintained tight vigil as the body was taken for post-mortem in Barh amid fears of retaliation.
Officials said preliminary findings suggested no firearm injuries, with the exact cause to be determined after autopsy.
Authorities urged calm as investigation continues in the politically volatile region.
