How smaller cities are redefining modern living with smarter homes

For decades, the idea of “modern living” in India has been defined with metros like Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru. However today, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are quietly transforming the way Indian families experience comfort, convenience and sustainability.

With rising aspiration and accessibility to technology, smaller cities are welcoming smarter homes faster than before.

According to Mr. Dinesh Chandra Pandey, Founder of Shankar Fenestration & Glasses, this shift reflects “a new India where quality living is no longer limited by geography.

Smaller cities are choosing smarter solutions, better materials, and sustainable designs that match global living standards.”

Integrating smart features in everyday life:

Increase in incomes, growing awareness and transforming lifestyles expectations have factored more demands for smart homes.

From smart lighting, modular kitchens to app-based controlled security systems and energy-efficient materials are rapidly becoming part of ordinary homes in non-metro regions.

Mr. Pandey believes that this trend is a strong indicator of how technology has become a constant in Indian households: “Families in smaller cities want the same comfort, safety and convenience that metros offer. Smart home integrations are no longer aspirational as they are becoming essential.”

Affordability fuels modern living:

Lower real-estate prices in smaller cities let families to upgrade to larger spaces without financial burdens.

These demands are taken care of by building modern homes equipped with sustainability-oriented features such as enhanced ventilation, power-saving systems and water-efficient technologies.

“At Shankar Fenestration & Glasses, we see growing demand for uPVC windows, insulated glass panels and eco-friendly building materials,” Mr. Pandey explains.

Government push strengthens growth:

Government programmes like the Smart Cities Mission have elevated infrastructure quality in smaller cities. Improved roads, virtual connectivity and improved public services are attracting professionals, retirees and young families seeking quieter, but well-connected, lifestyles.

Cities like Indore, Surat, Lucknow and Coimbatore are becoming strong examples of traditional meeting technology.

Sustainability takes centre stage

Technologies like solar panels, rainwater harvesting are gaining popularity outside metropolitan areas, encouraging people to live more sustainably.

By integrating green spaces, community gardens and eco-friendly recreation zones, builders are promoting healthier living environments.

“Sustainable fenestration products, when combined with smart planning, reduce carbon footprints while elevating lifestyle standards,” Mr. Pandey highlights.

A future shaped by aspiration and innovation

Mr. Pandey concludes: “The future of smart, comfortable and sustainable living lies in India’s smaller cities. With the right vision and innovation, these cities are becoming the new hubs of modern homes and Shankar Fenestration & Glasses is proud to be part of this transformation.”
