India slams Pakistan over Trump’s remarks on secret nuclear tests

At a weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal issued a sharp response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks suggesting that Pakistan had secretly resumed underground nuclear testing.

Jaiswal said, “Clandestine and illegal nuclear activities are in keeping with Pakistan’s history, centered around decades of smuggling, export control violations, secret partnerships, the A.Q. Khan network, and further proliferation.”

He added that India has consistently alerted the international community about Pakistan’s nuclear record and noted Trump’s comments “in this backdrop.”

Trump, during a 60 Minutes interview aired on Sunday, claimed that Pakistan had restarted underground nuclear tests, grouping the country alongside China, Russia, and North Korea.

The statement drew widespread scepticism from arms control experts and denials from all the nations mentioned.

Islamabad swiftly rebutted the claim, with a senior Pakistani security official stating that the country “was not the first to carry out nuclear tests and will not be the first to resume nuclear tests.”

Pakistan has maintained a self-imposed moratorium on nuclear testing since 1998.
