Iran raises military preparedness level following US threats

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have said the country’s military is at the peak of its preparedness amid continuing nationwide protests and escalating rhetoric from the United States.

Revolutionary Guards’ Aerospace Commander Majid Mousavi said Iran’s missile stockpiles have increased since last year’s 12-day war with Israel and that all wartime damage has been repaired, according to Reuters.

The remarks come as protests against Iran’s ruling establishment continue across several cities, with the death toll rising to at least 2,500 people, including protestors and civilians.

The unrest has drawn sharp comments from US President Donald Trump, who urged Iranians to continue protesting and asked them to take over state institutions, saying that “help is on its way”.

Trump also warned Tehran against executing protestors, threatening a strong US response. Iran has accused Washington of seeking to create a pretext for military intervention and of inciting violence, while warning that US statements threaten its sovereignty and national security.
