The iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JLN) in New Delhi is estimated to be dismantled to build a state-of-the-art Sports City, as reported by PTI.
The proposed plan of Sports City will cater to various sporting disciplines and include athlete lodging facilities.
As confirmed by a Sports Ministry official, all offices within the sports complex, including the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL), and the Income Tax department will be relocated, if the project begins.
“Currently, the land is not being used optimally. A Sports City will ensure top-class hosting and training facilities,” the official mentioned.
The plan still stands in its proposal stage, and will require coordination among several ministries.
Inaugurated in 1982 for the Asian Games and refurbished for the 2010 Commonwealth Games at a cost of over ₹900 crore, the JLN stadium recently hosted the World Para Athletics Championships.
