Women’s World Boxing Championships: Nikhat returns with dominant win while Lovlina suffers early exit

India’s campaign at the Women’s World Boxing Championships saw varying results on Saturday, with Nikhat Zareen making a triumphant return while Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain got an early exit.

Returning to the ring after more than a year due to injury, Nikhat showed her trademark composure in the 51kg round of 32. The two-time world champion delivered a sharp, calculated performance against USA’s Jennifer Lozano, clinching a dominant 5-0 victory.

However, top-seeded Lovline Borgohain witnessed an upset in the 75kg category. Contesting against Turkey’s Busra Isildar in the round of 16, the Tokyo Olympic medalist struggled to keep up with the pace of the contest as Isildar won 5-0 eliminating Lovlina.

With Nikhat advancing and Lovlina’s exit marking an unexpected setback, India’s journey at the championships now relies on its remaining contenders.
