Rahul Gandhi calls for transparency, justice in Zubeen Garg’s mysterious death

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday urged for a transparent and timely investigation into the mysterious death of Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg, saying the people of the state deserve to know the truth.

During his visit to Assam, Gandhi paid tribute to the late musician and met his grieving family, assuring them of the Congress party’s full support.

He expressed solidarity with Garg’s fans and the people of Assam, who continue to mourn the iconic artist’s untimely demise.

“People who heard him and loved him want to know what happened. They want closure. It is the duty of the government to transparently investigate and tell the family exactly what happened,” Gandhi said after meeting Garg’s family in Guwahati.

“I and the Congress party are there to support them in every possible way, and we stand with them in this grief.”

When asked if he would demand a Bharat Ratna for the late singer, Gandhi declined to shift focus from the immediate need for truth and justice.

“I don’t want to digress. I don’t want to take the discussion away from offering condolences, from telling the people of Assam that we love Zubeen Garg. We wish to honour him. But first, we want transparency and justice. What happened in Singapore, everybody in Assam should know it. And the sooner it happens, the better it is,” Rahul said.

Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most celebrated cultural icons, passed away on 9th September, under circumstances that have sparked widespread speculation and sorrow.

His fans across the Northeast have been demanding a thorough inquiry into the events surrounding his death in Singapore.
