SC to hear ED plea alleging interference by Mamata in I-PAC raids

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Thursday a plea filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleging interference and obstruction by the West Bengal government, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during search operations at the office of political consultancy firm I-PAC and the residence of its director, Pratik Jain.

As per the cause list, the matter is likely to be taken up by a bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Vipul Pancholi.

The ED has accused Banerjee of entering the raid sites and taking away key evidence, including documents and electronic devices, in connection with its probe into an alleged coal-pilferage scam. The agency has also alleged that police personnel aided the obstruction.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has filed a caveat in the apex court, seeking that no order be passed without hearing it.

Earlier, the ED had moved the Calcutta High Court seeking a CBI probe against Banerjee, while the high court on Wednesday disposed of a TMC plea seeking protection of its data.
