Shivam Dube’s remarkable winning streak ends after loss to Australia

Shivam Dube’s extraordinary run in T20I cricket finally came to an end on Thursday as India suffered a four-wicket defeat to Australia in the second T20I at Melbourne.

The loss snapped Dube’s unbeaten streak of 37 T20I wins, one of the longest by any player in the format’s history.

Dube, who made his T20I debut in 2019, had remarkably been on the winning side in 37 of his 42 matches before the Melbourne defeat, meaning he has now been part of a T20I loss only twice in his career.

The first came in December 2019, when India lost to the West Indies by eight wickets at home.

At Melbourne, Dube managed only 4 runs off 2 balls, as Australia chased down the target with 40 balls to spare to level the series.

Despite the setback, Dube remains a key figure in India’s T20I setup, having played a pivotal role in the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning campaign.

Having evolved into a reliable finisher and power-hitter in recent years, Dube’s rare defeat does little to diminish his growing stature in India’s shortest-format plans.
