SP leader Azam Khan walks free after five years, denies vendetta politics

Samajwadi Party (SP) veteran Azam Khan was released from Sitapur jail on Monday after securing bail from the Allahabad High Court in connection with the Quality Bar land encroachment case.

His release comes after nearly five years behind bars, during which time he was entangled in multiple legal battles.

Speaking to ANI shortly after his release, Khan dismissed allegations of vendetta politics, asserting that he had never wronged anyone, not even his adversaries.

“Vendetta comes into play only if I caused someone harm. I have behaved well, even with my enemies. Nobody can claim I did injustice to anyone,” he said.

On SP chief Akhilesh Yadav’s assurance that all “false” cases against him would be withdrawn if the party returns to power in Uttar Pradesh, Khan remained non-committal, saying, “What can I say?”

He also rejected speculation about joining the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), stressing that he had been “completely out of touch for five years” while in jail.

Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav welcomed Khan’s release, calling it a victory for justice, while SP MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav accused the BJP government of framing him in false cases.

Khan’s return has been hailed by party leaders as a moment of relief for the Samajwadi camp.
