US President Donald Trump has warned Hamas to accept his 20-point peace plan within three to four days. He said Arab and Muslim nations, along with Israel, have backed the proposal.
“We’re just waiting for Hamas,” Trump told reporters. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has welcomed the plan. Several countries, including France, Canada, India, and Russia, have also expressed support.
Key points of the 20-point plan
The plan calls for Hamas to disarm in exchange for peace and aid. Its main provisions include:
- An immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
- Release of all Israeli hostages.
- Withdrawal of Israeli forces.
- Release of hundreds of Palestinian detainees.
- Full humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Gaza.
The plan leaves open the idea of a Palestinian state. But Netanyahu has ruled out that option.
Backdrop of the Gaza war
The war began on October 7, 2023. Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 and abducting 250. In response, Israel launched massive strikes on Gaza. Since then, more than 66,000 Palestinians have been killed, many women and children.
What lies ahead
Hamas has said it will consult factions before responding. The coming days will decide if the group accepts or rejects Trump’s plan.
