Amid the protests in Iran escalating, the United States on Wednesday has issued an urgent advisory asking all its citizens to leave Iran immediately as the situation remains volatile.
The US Virtual Embassy in Iran and the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs have issued alerts warning about demonstrations that have spread nationwide, leading to arrests, injuries and heavy security crackdowns.
The department has advised Americans not to wait for any government-assisted evacuation and leave the country immediately.
Following the US move, several other countries have also issued advisories for their nationals in Iran. India, too, has urged its citizens to exercise extreme caution, avoid public gatherings and remain in close contact with the Indian mission for updates.
Iran has been witnessing sustained protests against the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei-led regime, with demonstrators taking to the streets in multiple cities.
The unrest has prompted a strong response from security forces, raising concerns among foreign governments over the safety of their nationals amid the escalating crisis.
