A film based on the case of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College in August 2024, has been given formal consent by the parents of the young doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at the college.
The consent letter, signed in mid-December, grants “full and unconditional consent” for the film titled Tillotoma. This update comes after the family initially opposed the project publicly.
The document is dated August 15, 2025, which the filmmaker said reflects when a draft consent was first shared with the family.
Director Ujjwal Chatterjee said the lack of clarity from the parents had delayed the project by nearly two months.
Veteran actors Jaya Prada and Mithun Chakraborty have been signed for lead roles, while Payal Chatterjee will portray the victim.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the case remains with the CBI amid allegations of lapses by the state police.
Legal experts have cautioned that parental consent does not override legal provisions mandating anonymity of sexual offence victims.
