The Election Commission of India on Thursday dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s claims that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was defending individuals involved in voter deletion scams.
The EC strongly rejected the allegations, calling them incorrect and baseless. The EC further clarified that no voter can be removed from the rolls without due process, ensuring the concerned individual has a chance to respond
Regarding Karnataka’s Aland constituency, the Commission admitted that in 2023 attempts were made to fraudulently delete voters but they were unsuccessful. An FIR was filed by the EC to ensure proper investigation. Elections in Aland were deemed fair, with BJP’s Subhadh Guttedar winning in 2018 and Congress’ BR Patil in 2023.
Earlier, Gandhi had accused CEC Gyanesh Kumar of protecting “vote chors,” asserting this process was being carried out systematically across India using automated software, citing Karnataka and Maharashtra constituencies. He also alleged that the Karnataka CID had repeatedly requested technical details from the EC, which were not shared, promising to soon reveal a “hydrogen bomb” of evidence on what he called “vote chori.”
