The West Bengal government has announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each for the families of those who died due to electrocution in the city following heavy rains and flooding.
According to officials, water levels in most parts of Kolkata have receded, though the Ganga witnessed substantial flooding and several low-lying areas remain affected.
The electrocution incidents occurred on Tuesday, as heavy waterlogging disrupted normal life across the city.
In a statement, the All India Trinamool Congress said the state government will not only provide financial support but also ensure employment to the next of kin of the deceased, even if the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) fails to do so.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed condolences, stressing that while “money cannot replace lives,” the government is committed to standing by the affected families during this tragedy.
