Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, addressing the U.N. General Assembly on Friday, claimed that a potential war between India and Pakistan was averted due to the intervention of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Sharif said, “Pakistan agreed to the ceasefire facilitated by Prez Trump. Had Prez Trump not intervened, it would have been war. Prez Trump is a man of peace. We nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, the least we could do.”
Sharif’s remarks highlighted Pakistan’s version of events during a period of heightened tensions between the two South Asian neighbours.
India, however, has consistently denied any third-party intervention in de-escalating the situation, maintaining that the ceasefire and diplomatic measures were handled bilaterally.
The divergent narratives underscore the longstanding differences in how both nations recount events during crises, even as calls for peace and stability continue to dominate diplomatic discourse in the region.
