The Leh Apex Body (LAB) on Monday announced the cancellation of its proposed talks with officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), citing unfulfilled demands related to the September 24 statehood protests that left four people dead.
Cherring Dorjay Lakruk, co-convenor of the LAB, said the organisation was unwilling to enter discussions unless its call for a judicial inquiry into the deaths was accepted.
“Our primary demand remains a transparent judicial investigation into the loss of lives. Until this is agreed upon, we cannot hold talks,” he said.
The LAB has been at the forefront of representing public grievances in Leh following the violent protests last week.
The protests, which turned deadly, had sparked widespread criticism of local administration measures and raised questions about accountability.
