India women eye semi-final berth: Here’s how they can still qualify for the 2025 World Cup semis

The Indian women’s cricket team remains in the race for a semi-final spot at the 2025 Women’s World Cup, with several qualification scenarios still possible as the league stage nears its end.

With England, Australia and South Africa already qualified for the semi-finals, only one spot is left. India and New Zealand are still in contention to finalise a place in the top 4.

Here’s a breakdown of India’s qualification chances:

  • If India win both matches:
    • Two wins will confirm a semi-final berth regardless of other results.
    • India will qualify comfortably with momentum heading into the knockouts.
  • If India win one and lose one:
    • Beat New Zealand, lose to Bangladesh: India will still likely qualify if their Net Run Rate (NRR) stays above Bangladesh.
    • Lose to New Zealand, beat Bangladesh: India will then rely on England to defeat New Zealand to secure a top-four finish.
  • If India lose both matches:
    • India will be eliminated unless multiple games are washed out.
    • Two washouts could still keep them in contention — but only if:
      • England beat New Zealand, and
      • India’s NRR remains higher than Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

With every match now crucial, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will need to deliver strong performances  and possibly hope for favorable results elsewhere to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
