BJP reopens Chhath ghat in east Delhi; blames AAP for earlier ‘closure’

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday reopened a Chhath ghat near the Yamuna Bank Metro Station, claiming it had been closed by the previous AAP government in 2020.

According to a BJP statement, the move was made in response to public demand ahead of the Chhath festivities.

Sachdeva accused the earlier AAP administration of “creating obstacles in religious and cultural festivals,” contrasting it with the current Rekha Gupta-led BJP government, which he said is “celebrating every festival with enthusiasm and spirit.”

There was no immediate response from the Aam Aadmi Party to the allegations.

Reopening effort and community response

Sachdeva said the reopening of the ghat fulfilled the aspirations of the Bihari and Purvanchali communities residing in nearby areas like Laxmi Nagar and Pandav Nagar.

BJP leader Dinesh Pratap Singh and members of the Bihar Jagran Manch of East Delhi expressed gratitude, noting that their request to reopen the ghat was swiftly acted upon.

Sachdeva also joined a cleanliness drive at the site alongside local BJP leaders, including MLA Abhay Verma and MCD councillor Sandeep Kapoor, as preparations for Chhath Puja gained momentum across the capital.
