Grand homecoming for Coach Amol Muzumdar after World Cup victory

Indian women’s cricket team head coach Amol Muzumdar was greeted with thunderous cheers and celebrations as he returned to his hometown after guiding India to their first-ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title

The emotional homecoming came after India’s thrilling win over South Africa in the final on November 2 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Videos and photos show fans beating drums, bursting crackers, and waving banners that read “Proud of you Amol!!!” as Muzumdar entered his locality.

Neighbours and supporters gathered in large numbers to congratulate the veteran cricketer-turned-coach, who has now scripted history with the squad.

Muzumdar, who took charge of the team in October 2023, played a crucial role in shaping India’s road to glory, helping the side lift not just their maiden ODI World Cup, but also their first ICC trophy across formats.

Despite scoring over 11,000 first-class runs in his playing career, Muzumdar never got the chance to play for India.

This World Cup triumph, therefore, stands as a moment of poetic justice for one of domestic cricket’s biggest legends.
