Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India’s ongoing economic and tax reforms are no longer “reactionary,” but guided firmly by the principle of “Nation First.”
Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2025 in New Delhi, he said such an approach “was unthinkable a decade ago.”
Modi asserted that earlier reforms were often shaped by political interests or triggered by crises, whereas current changes are anchored in long-term national growth. “Our speed is constant, direction consistent, and intent is Nation First,” he said.
Highlighting recent milestones, the Prime Minister pointed to the rollout of next-generation GST as a transformative step and noted significant direct tax reforms.
“Now there’s zero tax on income up to ₹12 lakh a year,” he said, adding that improvements are visible across multiple sectors.
