A 21-year-old man was arrested and his SUV impounded by the Delhi Police after a video showing him driving rashly on a busy stretch of National Highway-48 went viral on social media.
The clip, which surfaced online, showed a black Scorpio-N with tinted windows being driven in a dangerous zigzag manner on the GT Karnal Bypass Road near Narela, allegedly endangering other commuters.
Police said the incident occurred between 3 pm and 4 pm on January 18. Acting on the viral footage, a police team tracked and intercepted the vehicle shortly after the video was flagged.
The driver was identified as Daud Ansari, a 21-year-old resident of Okhla and a student of IGNOU. The SUV was registered in the name of his father, Musafir Ansari.
His driving licence was seized and a case was registered under Sections 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act for rash and negligent driving.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed the arrest on social media, stating that the offending vehicle had been seized. Further investigation is underway.
