Left parties urge govt not to join Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said the joint statement issued by Left parties was a “call to action,” urging the Indian government not to join US President Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace.”

In a latest post on X, Vijayan said the initiative sought to override the United Nations and existing international structures, warning that participation would undermine Palestinian rights and amount to a betrayal of the Palestinian cause.

What is the ‘Board of Peace’?

The “Board of Peace” is an international body proposed by the Trump administration to address global conflicts. Its charter says the organisation aims to promote stability, restore lawful governance and ensure lasting peace in conflict-affected regions.

Originally conceived to oversee Gaza’s rebuilding, the charter does not limit its mandate to the Palestinian territory. The executive board will be chaired by Trump and include senior US officials and global figures.

India’s stance so far

India has received an invitation but is yet to take a decision. Officials say the matter involves sensitive issues, while reiterating India’s support for a two-state solution and lasting peace in the region.
