The price of 24-carat gold touched ₹1,32,953 per 10 grams on Saturday, with buyers undeterred by the steep rates, driven by the traditional belief that purchasing gold on Dhanteras brings prosperity and good fortune.
The festival, which marks the beginning of Diwali celebrations, honours Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. Retail jewellers and major brands such as Tanishq reported heavy footfall, with some outlets even cautioning that their gold coin stock could run out due to overwhelming demand.
