Amid rising speculation over a possible leadership change in Karnataka, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday refused to comment on the issue.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, upon his arrival for the Constitution Day events, Kharge said, “This is not a subject to be discussed here and that too in public.”
The Rajya Sabha’s LoP added that his visit was strictly for official engagements, including review meetings scheduled later in the day.
Asked whether he would meet Rahul Gandhi, Kharge said the party president does not discuss internal matters “anywhere else,” adding that issues would be addressed only if a meeting takes place.
The debate over power-sharing has intensified within the Karnataka Congress after the government crossed the halfway mark of its five-year term.
Speculation resurfaced about an alleged agreement between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, though Siddaramaiah has insisted he will complete the full term.
